DESCRIPTION:เป็นวันเริ่มต้นที่พระภิกษุสงฆ์จะต้องอธิษฐานจำพรรษาอยู่กับที่ ไม่เที่ยวจาริกไปยังที่ต่าง ๆ เป็นเวลา 3 เดือน นับตั้งแต่วันแรม 1 ค่ำเดือน 8 ถึงวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำเดือน 11 ของทุกปี ซึ่งการให้จำพรรษาในสมัยพุทธกาล ก็เพื่อป้องกันมิให้พระสงฆ์ไปเหยียบย่ำข้าว และพืชผลของชาวบ้านเสียหาย ต่อมาถือเป็นโอกาสดีที่พระภิกษุจะได้มาอยู่ร่วมกันเพื่อศึกษาธรรมะ  และในปัจจุบันก็มีการรณรงค์ให้วันเข้าพรรษาเป็นช่วงงดเหล้า พักตับ กันด้วย

And nowadays\, there is a campaign to make Lent Day a period of abstaining from alcohol and resting the liver as well.
